Welcome to Haleiwa

Hale’iwa (House of the frigate bird) is a town located on the North Shore of Oahu. It was originally a small fishing village and was known for its fertile land, which was used for growing taro and other crops. In the late 1800s, Haleiwa became a hub for the sugar industry, with several plantations operating in the area.

In the early 1900s, tourism began to develop on the North Shore, and Haleiwa became a popular destination for visitors. The town’s main street became lined with shops, restaurants, and hotels to cater to tourists.  During World War II, Hale’iwa was an important military base, and the town’s population grew as a result. After the war, the town returned to its roots as a fishing village and agricultural center, but tourism continued to be an important part of the local economy. Today, Haleiwa has largely become a surf town and is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches, surfing, and laid-back atmosphere. The town has also become a center for the arts, with several galleries and studios showcasing the work of local artists.
